Whitehorse Nordic Centre (Mt. Mac) ski report
“It just can’t get any best than this,” was a comment made this week by a visitor to our ski club. So, take advantage of the mild temperatures and come out for a ski.
It’s been a busy week for our groomers. The World Cup 10K, Pierre Harvey, Monique Waterreus, Ketza Connector, Chalet and Olympic were groomed Wednesday night and are excellent for classic and skating.
Copper to Best Chance, Upper Valley, Selwyn’s Loop, Dog, Sundog, Raven, Coyote, Powerline, World Cup 7.5 and 5K, the lit trails and the Stadium were groomed Tuesday night and are also excellent for classic and skating.
Copper to Haul Road, Haul Road, Lower Valley and Jeff Link were all groomed last weekend. The Mt. MacIntyre Ascent and Descent were both groomed last weekend but take caution on the Descent as it is still a bit bumpy.
With our now longer days, the trail lights are now off for the season, but evening is still a great time to ski.
* Carry a cell phone and let somebody know where you are skiing.
* Be prepared - carry matches, safety blanket, and hand warmers.
* Take a map and know where you are - be familiar with the emergency supply caches that are located on the trails.
Wax Suggestions: Early in the day, Rode Green if colder than -10 C. Move to Rode Super Blue as the temperatures rise and Rode Multi-grade Violet if it gets close to -1 C. Always carry wax and cork on the trail.
