Whitehorse RCMP arrested five people and seized a large quantity of drugs and weapons on Monday evening from a home on Sandpiper Drive in the Arkell subdivision.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., police officers, following a warrant, entered the home and arrested the quintet.
They are: 51-year-old Raven Tsandaya, 26-year-old Layla Scarff, 22-year-old Shavohn Bowe, 25-year-old Sidney Smarch and 27-year-old Shawn Alfred.
“Some suspects were arrested inside the home, some outside. They were not running from police,” Sgt. Don Rogers, a spokesman with the RCMP, told the Star today.
The suspects, all Yukon residents, are known to police, said Rogers.
Found in the home were 60 grams of cocaine and smaller quantities of crack cocaine, steroids, oxycodine and morphine.
Seven long-barrelled firearms, including a shotgun, and one semi-automatic assault-style rifle were also seized, along with $4,000 in cash, paraphernalia and two samurai swords.
The accused are charged with the possession of controlled substances and trafficking in controlled substances.
Smarch is also charged with possession of firearms while prohibited.
The group appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.
As of today, four have been released, while one remains in custody.
“Anytime we take drugs, guns and money off the street, we believe we have made the community safer,” said Rogers.
“We’re not under the illusion that we have rid the city of drugs, but we hope we have made an impact and we ask for the continued co-operation of the community to bring any new information forward.”

Good job by the RCMP…keep it up.
By the way, is that not a pellet gun 3rd from the bottom in the picture? Not sure I’d consider that a “weapon”.
