A family dispute resulted in one Whitehorse woman spending last night in hospital and another in jail.

Ambulance attendants arrived at a Porter Creek home last night to find a woman had been stabbed, Whitehorse RCMP reported this morning.

They called the police, who responded at just after 9 p.m.

“She was conscious and able to talk,“said Sgt. Don Rogers. “She was able to communicate the general jist of what happened.”

The 49-year-old stabbing victim was treated for multiple wounds at the scene, Rogers said, before being transported to Whitehorse General Hospital.

“Once at the hospital, further injuries were found and she received emergency surgery,” he said.

An 18-year-old woman, who police say is related to the stabbing victim, was arrested nearby.

“She was located without incident in another relative’s residence in Porter Creek,” Rogers said.

The younger woman, whose name was not released, now faces several charges, including aggravated assault. She was to appear in court this afternoon.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.
