Whitehorse forward Riley Pettitt scored a goal and an assist as the Prince George Cariboo Cougars put up their best round-robin record in team history at the Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary, Alta.

While falling just shy of a semifinal playoff berth with a 3-2 overtime loss to Pirati Chomutov in the quarter-finals Monday, the Cougars finished round-robin play with the most goals of any of the 25 teams along with the best goal differential with a plus-15.

The Cats won their pool with a 3-0-1 record while also going undefeated in round-robin play for the first time in team history.

Pettitt scored in an 8-1 win over the Winnipeg Wild in the Cougars’ tournament opener, and added an assist in the quarter-final loss.

“Heart breaker. Not the way we wanted it to end,” Pettitt tweeted following his team’s elimination.

The Vancouver NW Giants won the tournament on Tuesday.

The Cariboo Cougars return to BCMML play this weekend hosting the Valley West Hawks Saturday and Sunday.
