Judokas battle for gold at Carcross championships

Judokas battled hard at the Carcross Judo Championships at the Ghùch Tlâ Community School Gym on Saturday.

Judokas battled hard at the Carcross Judo Championships at the Ghùch Tlâ Community School Gym on Saturday.

The shiai meet, hosted by the local Hiroshikai Judo Club, saw stellar performances from each of the four clubs involved.

The Carcross club hosted three Whitehorse-based clubs – the Northern Lights Judo Club, the Shiroumakai Judo Club, and Golden Horn Judo Club.

The Shiroumakai club won the overall event, besting the host club by nine points. Results are as follows:

Boys U9 –26Kg: Gold - Luke Roberts GHJ; Silver - Mitchell Rudolph SHK; Bronze - Kenai Bryden HRK.

Boys U9 –29Kg: Gold - Aodhan Nowell SHK; Silver - Devyn Rollins SHK; Bronze - Tristan Cruickshank NLJ.

Boys U9 –38Kg: Gold - Zacharia Lennie HRK; Silver - Jerome Hoeden NLJ; Bronze - Diego Smarch NLJ.

Mixed U11 –30Kg: Gold - Cassie Jensen SHK; Silver - Glade Roberts GHJ.

Girls U11 –45Kg: Gold - Kate Muller SHK; Silver - Sage Smarch HRK; Bronze - Aliya Grant HRK.

Boys U11 –45Kg: Gold - Scottie James HRK; Silver - Kaajineek Neumann NLJ; Bronze - Coin Shepherd-Bryden HRK.

Boys U11 +45Kg: Gold - Jadon Leenders SHK; Silver - Liam Rollins SHK.

Girls U13 –39Kg: Gold - Emiko Teramura SHK; Silver - Hannah King SHK.

Boys U15 –50Kg: Gold - Jade McLeod HRK; Silver - Columbus MacKinnon NLJ.

Boys U18 –90Kg: Gold - Jacob Hall HRK; Silver - Dominic Smith-Johns HRK; Bronze - Darrien James-Tizya HRK.

Knowledge (practical) – Beginner: Gold - Tai McClelland NLJ (88/100); Silver - Jade McLeod HRK (84/100); Bronze - Hannah King SHK (78/100).

Knowledge (practical) – Intermediate: Gold - Emiko Teramura SHK (156/200); Silver - Jadon Leenders SHK (153/200); Bronze - Paige Poelman NLJ (152/200).

Knowledge (theory) – Beginner: Gold - Tai McClelland NLJ (31/33); Silver - Jade McLeod HRK (30/33); Bronze - Hannah King SHK (27/330).

Knowledge (theory) – Intermediate: Gold - Emiko Teramura SHK (27/33); Silver - Paige Poelman NLJ; (26/33); Bronze - Liam Rollins SHK (25/33).
