Campbell Stephenson, also known as Jerry James, 24, died suddenly last Monday night.

“Family members had called the ambulance for medical assistance because (Stephenson) was experiencing abdomen pain,” police reported last Tuesday.

“Shortly after the paramedics attended the family home, (Stephenson) stopped breathing. A community nurse was called to assist, but attempts to resuscitate were not successful.”

At the time, police were treating the death as suspicious, coroner Sharon Hanley said today, because of bruising on the man’s body.

But according to the Vancouver pathologist’s initial report which was delivered late last week, the bruises had nothing to do with Stephenson’s death, she said.

However, the autopsy did not reveal the cause of the young man’s death, so further toxicology and microscopic tests will be done.

Results from those tests should be available within three weeks, Hanley said.

Hanley said she believed the young man was visiting family in Carcross at the time of his death, but was residing in Vancouver.
