A small grizzly bear was discovered in the Takhini and Porter Creek areas over the weekend.

Environment Yukon said the bear is roaming around in search of garbage and other attractants.

Residents in the area are advised to use caution, keep garbage secure, and not leave pet food around the yard.

The prowling bruin has been spotted near Yukon College, Arnheim Crescent in Takhini and Ponderosa Drive in Porter Creek C, and conservation officers posted signs to that effect on Sunday.

Environment Yukon advises that those using the trails should always be on the look out for bears and carry bear spray.

Conservation officers will check two traps regularly for the bear, believed to be about three years old.

Any further sightings should be reported to the 24-hour TIP line at 1-800-661-0525, or Environment Yukon at 667-5652, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I hope the City officials heed the warning and consider the request to improve the garbage cans.

Who cares. The CO’s will just label this bear a garbage bear and kill it. Its just easier that way.
