Record turnout for dryland dog mushing race; 27 teams participate
Anthills, a mud pit and more mosquitoes than anyone could count didn’t stop the Hot Hounds race series from achieving a record turnout this past weekend.
Twenty-seven teams braved some tough conditions and obstacles during the Yukon Meat and Sausage - the Deli Race, held at Stacie Zaychuk’s, off the Alaska Highway.
The top three finishers in the pet dog category included Heather Desmarais with dog Keno. Desmarais time was 5:19, while Jonathan Lucas wasn’t too far behind her, finishing with a time of 5:27.
