This Junior National event was composed of three disciplines: halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air.

The Yukon Freestyle developmental ski team only trains in two of the three disciplines locally at Mount Sima, but decided to compete in all three areas for the competition in Calgary.

Here are the results:

U16 Halfpipe – Jacob Robertson 23rd, Isaac Maddocks 24th, Charlie Fidler 27th, Alex Wilson 29th

U18 Halfpipe – Jason McKay 8th

U16 Slopestyle – Alex Wilson 20th, Isaac Maddocks 22nd, Jacob Robertson 23rd, Charlie Fidler 27th

U18 Slopestyle – Jason McKay 2nd

U16 Big Air – Alex Wilson 19th, Isaac Maddocks 23rd, Charlie Fidler 29th, Jacob Robertson DNS

U18 Big Air – Jason McKay 12th

After being on the podium, Jason McKay stated, “That was amazing and unexpected. I tried my hardest and believed in myself. I don’t think I could have come this far without the support of my teammates and my coaches.”

Coaches Lyndsey Boorse and Chris Arsenault accompanied the team to Junior Nationals. Boorse said “this was an excellent experience for the team to be able to travel and compete against athletes from other provinces. They all showed what they can do, especially to themselves.”

The athletes are looking forward to competing on their home hill in this weekend’s Yukon Champs, on April 2nd and 3rd at Mount Sima.
