WOHL Wrap: Tim Hortons brews up first-place

Tim Hortons won their ninth game in a row with a 6-4 win over EDI Wednesday at the Canada Games Centre, and in the process locked up first place in the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League 2021-22 regular season standings.

Tim Hortons won their ninth game in a row with a 6-4 win over EDI Wednesday at the Canada Games Centre, and in the process locked up first place in the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League 2021-22 regular season standings. Willy McKenna netted a hat trick (two shorties), Chris Nash added a double-double and Pat Cash stuffed home a rebound for Tims. For EDI, it was Peter Johnston, Brian Currie, Ian Boyce and Ron Cruikshank.

Yukon Inn 3, CapriCMW 2

Laurie Malo rifled home the game winner midway through the second period, and the Inn staff hung on for victory. Kevin Topping and Steve Arrell rounded out their scoring. Dave Wipf accounted for both Capri goals. Ron Daub was -3 in defeat.

Tuesday

Tim Hortons 10, Medicine Chest 2

It was Gau's Gone Wild in this one as Mike netted five goals in victory. Another Mike (Blower) stirred in two more, and single servings came from Chris Nash, Willy McKenna and Garrett Zacharias. Chest snipers were Eric Chalmers and Bill Bohmer.

Monday

Kilrich 5, Firth 0

Goaler Mike Hawkins nailed the door shut on the Rangers, stopping everything fired at him. Greg Charlie pounded home two for the winners, and Johnny Sembsmoen, Rick Moses and Wade Harrison also scored.

Sunday

Danny Johnson's recall from Kilrich's minor league affiliate in Lower Post was just the boost his team needed, as the shifty centre scored two late goals to lead Kilrich to a 4-3 squeaker over EDI in WOHL action at the Canada Games Centre Sunday. Stu MacMillan lobbed one in from the point, and GM Sean McLeish rounded out the builders' scoring. Peter Johnston, Myles Dolphin and Pat Tobler did the damage for EDI.

Saturday

Tim Hortons 4, CapriCMW 3

Ryan Martin score two, including the game winner, to lead Tim's to their seventh win in a row, a nail-biting result over Capri. Tims brewed up a 4-0 lead early in the second period, but Capri stormed back with three in the second frame to whip the fan in attendance into a frenzy. Doug Terry and Chris Nash also connected for Tim's. Al Hansen, Greg Lane (still on a tear) and Gerry Rivest replied for CMW.

Firth 3, Air North 3

Nate Clark tied the game with just over two minutes on the clock to help the blue boys earn the single point. Clark scored another, and Doug Cote added a rare goal from the blueline. Elgin Schwantz, Peter Mostyn and Ty Heffner replied for Air North, who recorded their third tie in a row.

Yukon Inn 8, Medicine Chest 1

Bubba Demchuk and Kevin Topping led the charge in this one on the big ice with two goals each for the Inn. Jeff Jensen, Gary MacKellar, Rob Green and George Morgan each chipped in one marker. Dave Ecker spoiled the shutout with the lone MC goal.

Tim Hortons (26-8-1) leapt into the league lead with 53 points. TA Firth, who lead most of the way, are in second at 49 points (24-9-1) and the Yukon Inn (18-9-3) rounds out the top three with 46 points (21-10-4).

Nate Clark continues to tear up the league, leading the scoring race with 85 points (43 goals, 42 assists) in only 28 games. Willy Mckenna of Tim Hortons maintains second place with 65 points (32 goals, 33 assists) in only 27 games. Dustin Heffner of Air North continues cruising along in third with 61 points (30 goals, 31 assists) in 32 games.

Among the regular goalies, Glen Traverse of Tim Hortons maintained his lead with a 3.03 GAA. Yukon Inn's Jim Antonissen remains in second with a 3.29 GAA. Firth's Paul Husband rounds out the top-three with a 3.89 GAA.

Traverse leads in goalie wins with 26, followed by Antonissen with 21 and Husband with 18 victories.
