WOHL Wrap: Buzzer sounds on regular season; playoffs start Saturday

Josh Savill dispensed three goals to lead Medicine Chest to a 7-5 upset win over Firth in both teams' final game of the Oldtimers hockey season Wednesday at the Canada Games Centre. Gus Morberg, Martin Lawrie, Bill Bohmer and Mark Pike added one apiece, and Colin Nash filled the scoresheet with four assists for MC. For Firth, it was Ben Kielb with a pair, and solo shots from Nate Clark, Marcel Barrault and Doug Cote.

Kilrich 4, CapriCMW 2

Once again, it was Scott Palfreyman leading the way for Kilrich with a pair of goals, with single nails coming from Greg Charlie and Stu MacMillan. Dave Wipf and Greg Lane replied for Capri.

Monday

Air North 6, EDI 5

Air North didn't tie (although it was close)! Kerry Pettitt, Dustin Heffner and Derek Bilodeau each scored twice in the win. Ben showed no Mercier to Air North, scoring four times, and Myles Dolphin got the other for EDI.

The league wrapped up its shortened 36-game regular season schedule on Wednesday.

Tim Hortons lead the league with 53 points (26-9-1). TA Firth, who lead most of the way, were right behind with 51 points (25-10-1) and the Yukon Inn rounded out the top three with 47 points (21-10-5).

Nate Clark lead the scoring race with 86 points (44 goals, 42 assists) in only 29 games. Dustin Heffner of Air North flew into second place with a prolific week to hit the 70 point mark with an oddly even stat line (35 goals, 35 assists) in 35 games.

Willy Mckenna of Tim Horton's slipped into third place and ended up with 66 points (32 goals, 34 assists) in only 28 games.

Among the regular goalies, Glen Traverse of Tim Hortons led the league with a 3.08 GAA. Yukon Inn's Jim Antonissen finished in second with a 3.33 GAA. Firth's Paul Husband rounded out the top-three with a 3.79 GAA. Traverse lead in goalie wins with 26, followed by Antonissen with 21 and Husband with 19 victories.

The double-knockout playoffs, which begin Saturday, feature the following first-game matchups at the Canada Games Centre:

Tim Hortons vs EDI (Saturday) 6:15 p.m. ATCO arena

Kilrich vs Air North (Sunday) 6:45 p.m. ATCO arena

Firth Rangers vs Medicine Chest (Monday) 7:45 p.m. NWTel arena

Yukon Inn vs CapriCMW (Tuesday) 7:15 p.m. ATCO arena
