Thibeault, Kobler win top honours at badminton championship

Caroline Thibeault won the open women’s singles event in the weekend’s 2016 Yukon Badminton Championship while Lukas Kobler won the men’s title.

Caroline Thibeault won the open women’s singles event in the weekend’s 2016 Yukon Badminton Championship while Lukas Kobler won the men’s title.

Abigail Cuenza finished second in women’s singles and Nora Vincent-Braun was third.

John Kremer took home the silver in men’s singles and Carl Knickle finished with the bronze.

Kobler also won the single’s event in the Under-19 division, ahead of silver medalist Knickle and Daniel Kim in third.

Ljubica Tokic took home the gold in the single’s event of the U-14 girl’s division, with Gabrielle Belanger taking silver and Jasmine Sealy securing the bronze.

Tony Kim won the honour in the U-14 boy’s single’s division, ahead of silver medalist Anton Menzel and bronze medalist Thomas Janzen.

Cuenza teamed up with Vincent-Braun to win the open women’s doubles event, ahead of Thibeault and Belanger in second and Sandy Ganesan and Macy Li in third.

Kremer and John Pan took the open men’s doubles, with Eri Boye and Ethan Allen finishing with silver while Kobler and Knickle won bronze.

Thibeault and Kremer teamed up to take gold in the open mixed doubles event, while Vincent-Braun and Kobler earned silver with the bronze going to Cuenza and Knickle.

Tanner Ulrich and Kenny Hyatt won the U-16 boy’s doubles event, with Antoine Giguere and Thibault Lohergne winning silver and Lou Samson and Romeo Champagne finishing with bronze.

Morgan Iskra and Austin Au earned gold in the U-16 mixed doubles event with Belanger and Antoine Giguere finishing in second ahead of bronze medalists Tokic and Samson.

Iskra also took gold in the U-14 girl’s doubles with teammate Ainslie Spence. Tokic and Belanger earned silver and the team of Emma Lohergne and Elizabeth Inglis-Corneau finished with the bronze.
