Team Canada finished sixth today at the 2024 Gangwon Youth Olympics relay in South Korea.

It was the final day of competition for the cross country team, as well as for the Games.

The team, consisting of Whitehorse's Aramintha (Minty) Bradford, Leanne Gartner, Eamon Wilson and Cedric Martel, finished the 4 x 5 km relay in 54 minutes, 25.9 seconds.

Canada was not far off Germany's winning time of 53 minutes, 7.3 seconds.

France was second in 53 minutes, 13 seconds.

Switzerland came in a very close third in 53 minutes, 13.3 seconds.

Nordiq Canada posted a description of Team Canada's race on their Facebook page:

"Leanne Gartner was the first on course, sticking with the lead pack to the three-kilometre mark. She tagged off to Eamon Wilson in ninth place, 30 seconds back from the leaders. Wilson put his head down, bringing the team back into the chase group to tag off in eighth place to Aramintha Bradford. Bradford, along with athletes from USA and Finland would form the chase group, tagging off to Cedric Martel in sixth place. With five kilometres to go, Martel would do his best to hang with Team USA, while Finland, Italy and Estonia began to bring back time. Martel would hang on, finishing just 1.18 back from the winners, giving Team Canada their best Cross Country Skiing Relay finish at the Youth Olympic Games."

Afterward, Wilson spoke about the team's future in a Canadian Olympic Committee press release.

“Really excited for the future of cross-country skiing in Canada. I think doing well in the team relay really shows that you have a lot of really strong skiers who work together as a group, and we definitely showed that today.”

The closing ceremonies of the Games took place today at 4 a.m. Yukon time.
