Ryan Downing Memorial Swim Meet a ‘tremendous success’

This year’s Ryan Downing Memorial Swim Meet was a tremendous success.

The Haines Dolphin Swim Team joined Whitehorse Glacier Bears (WGB) in a weekend full of fun racing, the first time in three years that a visiting team has come to the Yukon.

We saw countless personal bests broken, which included a new club record set in the men’s 13-14 400 metre individual medley by Corbin Jackson.

Our meet concluded with the 50 Free eliminator, a Ryan Downing Tradition. This event is extraordinarily difficult and truly demonstrated the resilience of our athletes. Emily Vangel, 17, took first, Sabine Keesey 14, second, and Julia Robbins, 17, third in the women’s eliminator. For the mens, Corbin Jackson, 14, took first, Hugh Stopps, 12, second, and Roy Oborne, 11, third.

WGB is incredibly thankful for Re/max Action Realty who generously donated to our club to support us in running this event.

Up next, WGB will be traveling to Victoria for the Pacific Coast Swimming Club’s “Xmas Cracker” in early December.
