Riverdale continues to top the Yukon Soccer Metro League as they defeated Midnight Sun United 5-4 Friday night at the Canada Games Centre.

In the late game, Copper Ridge beat Porter Creek 2-1.

The standings remain the same as the regular season nears its close. Riverdale is in the lead, while Copper Ridge is in second, Porter Creek is third and Midnight Sun United rounds out the league in fourth.

This Friday’s games will see Porter Creek face Riverdale at 7:30 p.m., while Copper Ridge and Midnight Sun united face off at 8:30 p.m.

NOTES: A moment of silence was observed ahead of each game last Friday for Donny Richardson, a prominent figure in the soccer community who was reported missing on Jan. 23. Richardson is presumed dead, although the police have not released a statement.

“It is with great sadness that YSML bids farewell to a pillar of the Yukon Soccer community, Donny (Donald) Alfred James Richardson. Donny was a gem of the soccer community, universally liked and respected. Many of us had the honour of sharing the pitch with him and many of us were lucky enough to call him a friend,” said a post on the Yukon Soccer Metro league Facebook page last Friday morning. “Tonight there will be a moment of silence before each game to honour the life of Donny Richardson.

“Rest in peace, Brother, you will be sorely missed.”
