Greasy goal gains Yukoninfo.com a point

The top two teams in the league lined up against each other in over 35’s soccer action and if you were watching the first half you would have thought that Pepsi were going to walk to victory as they eased to a 2-0 lead. Goals by Justin Carre and Phil Jackson had Pepsi looking at all three points, but a change of tactics from Yukoninfo.com saw them roar back into contention as Franklin Fru and Eric Murphy picked up a goal apiece as spectators sensed a swing in momentum, only for in-form striker Adid Khalik to get a goal and put Pepsi back on top.

Yukoninfo.com pushed forward to try and equalize and got what they were looking for when Keith Maguire’s shot rolled around the boards, managing to evade keeper Brian Bruckman to bring them level. The league leaders gave everything to try and break down Pepsi, but it wasn’t to be, as their efforts came to naught, and were grateful for the slice of luck that came their way earlier.

Kunovic masterclass punishes Driving Force

Kruno Kunovic was exceptional on Saturday as he led his Yukon Brewing team to a 5-2 victory over Driving Force. Kunovic does most things well on the soccer field. Normally, his understated play provides a strong foundation for other members of his team, but this week he decided he wanted some glory for himself, as he lashed home two goals that knocked the wind out of Driving Force and set his team on the victory trail.

Kunovic was assisted by Marcelo Gortari, who once again was the heartbeat of his side. He scored one, and if he put the finishing touch to an individual effort that took him past most of the Driving Force team, it would have been a nominee for goal of the season. Shawn Fearson scored a nice goal, with veteran Derric Lewis rounding out the scoring for Yukon Brewing.

Driving Force never gave up and were still looking to add to Goher Hafeez’s and Gord Barker’s goals right till the end.

Grady grabs gorgeous goal

Klondike Business Solutions skipper Greg Grady was annoyed with last week’s result, so he decided to take the bull by the horns and lead his team from the front. He did this with a remarkable performance, as he scored a wonder goal and rallied his side to a 3-1 win over Air North Rangers. Grady had the wind beneath his wings as he floated around the pitch, with his brand of sweeping soccer that Air North didn’t have much of an answer to. Mark Wickham netted a goal and there was another goal for the much improved Creed Swan. When Grady’s team plays like this, it is difficult to see how they won’t be a factor in the shake up for the league title.

Air North Rangers have had a torrid time this year and haven’t hit the heights of last year’s campaign, but there is one bright spot as Miles Hume continues to score goals, as he did in this game, and is joint top in the race for the Golden Boot. Saturday’s games will be the last of the year and everyone is welcome to come and watch.
