The Yukon Brewing Invitational Co-ed Soccer Tournament last weekend

By Whitehorse Star on April 26, 2017

The Yukon Brewing Invitational Co-ed Soccer Tournament last weekend was a tremendous occasion with over 60 players in five teams taking part.

The tournament format involved a round-robin, followed by playoff games to determine where the teams placed.

Danny Macdonald’s green team was leading the league with Desley Mcleod and Andrea Finner playing well until they lost their last game against Guliano Rayo’s red team, meaning that they had to play them again in a playoff for a place in the final.

However Rayo lead his team to victory with great performances by Aimee Parker and JP Ladroue, meaning they played Jim Brown’s Blue Team, which had been in fine form throughout the tournament.

Before the final was the all important basement game between Jan Aalt Van Den Horne’s Yellow team and Team F.H. Collins to decide fourth and fifth places.

Ben Mercier and Taylor Barr both starred for yellow as they won 5-4 in a very entertaining game and while Team FH Collins finished with the wooden spoon, Jaime Jo Hudson and Steff Main were superb in defeat.

The final was close early on, but as the extra game in the legs of the red team began to tell, the Blue team eased to victory where Franklin Fru and Kyle Bird were a constant threat.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the tournament.
