Over the weekend, seven teams competed for the most prestigious co-ed soccer title in the Yukon, with Jan Aalt Van den Hoorn’s Orange team taking the honours as they played their six games without being beaten.

It was fantastic to see the stands full of people enjoying the carnival of entertainment that the players produced. The F.H. Collins team, which was made up of staff and students from the school, produced some wonderful moments of skill. Linnea Roberts, Fleur Marsella and Milo Schlosser were all exceptional.

The Blue team, led by the Whitty sisters, Susan and Jamie, also finished unbeaten and claimed the runner-up spot.

There were some other standout performances from players on the other teams. Hector ‘The Hangman’ Lang and Eric Murphy gave everything for the Grey team. The Yellow team had Morris Prokop and Keith Welch in fine form. White had the peerless Doug Hitch at the helm and were thankful for the performances from Christina Terpstra and Guliano Rayo.

Red on another day would have finished higher up the table had they had more luck. Their strike force of Simon Pulido and Carlos Astorquiza may have had a combined age of over a century but were always a threat in front of the net.

The Orange side played very well as a team and deserved their glory, with Ehab Alhag Hussen and Abby Rich scoring the goals, and Mikey Jones hunting the midfield area.

Winners at the after-tournament awards were Jordan Minifie, the Women’s MVP and Mikey Jones, the Men’s MVP. Illr Azizaj earned the over-50 MVP, and Alejandro Pulido took the Best Keeper trophy, with his father Simon picking up the much sought-after Toilet Bowl award.
