EDI fell 5-4 to Medicine Chest last night and the finals were set for the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League.

Advancing from the B-side is Medicine Chest, which will face the A-side-winning Firth Rangers at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Canada Games Center’s NWTel rink.

Medicine Chest must beat the Firth Rangers twice to win the playoffs and if a second game is needed, it will go Friday at 8 p.m. on the same ice surface.

Medicine Chest’s Blayne Monahan, who was the league’s top player with 82 points over 41 games this season, recorded one goal and one assist in last night’s game.

Colin Nash had three assists, Kirk Price had two and Lawrence Ignace, Peter Kirby and Bill Cullen each recorded one in their win over EDI.

Chris Nash had a hat trick while Cullen scored the team’s other goal.

Medicine Chest was up 3-0 at the end of the first half of play (the Oldtimers League plays two periods of 22 minutes).

EDI clawed back into contention with a goal by David Wipf (assist to Brian Currie) with just over 17 minutes remaining.

Medicine Chest added to their lead with 9:49 remaining on a Chris Nash goal.

But EDI brought things closer with an unassisted goal from Martin Lawrie and a power play goal from Greg Lane (assist to Wipf).

Things got even more interesting when EDI tied things up on a Wipf goal with 54 seconds remaining.

They couldn’t keep the late momentum going and Medicine Chest sealed the win with Nash’s third goal of the game with 29 seconds remaining.

The Firth Rangers will attempt to defend their Oldtimers Hockey League playoff title tomorrow night. They won last year against EDI in two games.

Winning the A side of the lead-in to the finals this year means that the Rangers only need one win tomorrow night to clinch the title.
