A group of tennis players from Juneau, Alaska, held onto the Capital Cup during a tournament held in Whitehorse earlier this month.
A group of 10 players from the Alaska capital defeated a 21-player Whitehorse contingent 195-158 in the tournament held at the Mount McIntyre courts July 11 to 13.
Players competed in singles and doubles matches, before taking time to mingle over a potluck dinner Saturday night in the ski club’s wax room.
Games scores are made up of total games won in pro set format.
Tennis Yukon president Stacy Lewis said the event proved to be “a great weekend of tennis with our Juneau friends.”
Each year, Whitehorse hosts an outdoor tournament while Juneau holds an indoor event.
She said the club is hoping to get a group together to compete in Juneau next spring.
Prior to the Capital Cup, a high-performance camp was held, with six Whitehorse athletes, two Yellowknife players, and one athlete from Juneau participating.
“It was a big success,” said head coach Jan Polivka.
Polivka recently became the only Level 2 instructor in the North, and just one of 150 across the country. The role helps Polivka as a performance coach working with juniors age five to 12 to develop a strong foundation.
