The 2017/18 over 35’s soccer season kicked off this weekend with two games, which had a little bit of everything in it. Tony’s Pizza and Klondike Business Solutions opened proceedings with a 3-3 tie. Arnold Hedstrom scored the first goal of the season, with a nicely placed effort, only for John Macphail to reply.

Justin Carre returned to action with two goals for the Pizza Boys, but KBS hit back with goals from captain Danny Macdonald and Adil Khalik. However, in attempting to save the third goal, keeper Thomas Riexinger badly dislocated his ankle and broke his fibula. The game was abandoned as Riexinger received attention from the paramedics. Everyone associated with the teams wishes Thomas a speedy recovery.

The second game of the day was just as dramatic as Pepsi held off Yukoninfo.com 3-2 in a great game. Yukoninfo captain Jan Aalt van den Horne was very generous in allowing two subs for Pepsi, this gesture backfired when the two sub Phil Jackson and Gord Barker scored. There was a lot of action at both ends of the pitch as Aalt van den dragged his team back into the game when he scored. After Ben Mercier added another the game was left in the balance right until the final whistle.
