Matthias Hartmann scored a peerless hat trick for his team Yukoninfo.com but it was in vain as the mighty Chieftain team ran out 5-3 winners.

Over-35’s soccer has seen some great teams in the past, but the team skipper Miles Hume has constructed has been untouchable this term.

Keeper James Mccullough between the sticks has been outstanding; he anchors the team at the back, to allow the superstars further up the pitch to do their own thing.

For Yukoninfo.com, Hartmann was deadly in front of goal, scoring virtually every time he saw the goal.

The defenders of Jan Aalt van den Hoorn, Brian Bruckman and Andrzej Jablonski were amazing for much of the game as they put their bodies on the line for their team, but as it turned out it wasn’t enough, as the fitness of Chieftain began to tell.

Yukon info were 3-2 up with less than three minutes to play, but Chieftain amped up the energy levels as they finally broke the will of the Orangemen, scoring three quick goals that showed the spirit of the team, and kept them unbeaten for the season.

Franklin Fru and John Main netted two each and Phil Jackson one for the Chieftain goals.

Farrow leads Driving Force
to their first win

Keith Welch’s Driving Force team were celebrating on Saturday as they overcame Klondike Business Solutions 3-1 to pick up a welcome three points.

Martin Farrow scored with a cheeky flick that set his team on the way to victory.

Welch’s Driving Force team has never thrown the towel in, even though they have been on the wrong end of some savage beatings this season.

Helped out by Iain Breckenridge, they were able to defend well and then score goals to give them a cushion that allowed them to play with confidence, to the point that they never looked like they were ever going to lose.

KBS is an enigma; they have some real talent on their team, but can’t transfer it to the game.

The one time they did show this ability, Chris McCutcheon scored an excellent header after excellent build up play.

The loss leaves KBS rooted to the bottom of the table, while the win sets the Force up nicely for the rest of the season.

Jan Aalt van den Hoorn and Breckenridge got the other Driving Force goals.

The Messiah returns

Peter Mather, arguably the greatest player to grace the Yukon, was back playing on Saturday for Yukon Brewing after a multi-year hiatus.

Mather has been at hairdressing school, but unfortunately was thrown out after presenting his current haircut as an assignment.

However, if he was to be judged on his soccer ability, he would have got an A.

It took less than three minutes for him to score his first goal, then from there on he was like a fragrance. Pepsi knew he was there, but couldn’t touch him.

Skipper Jason Steele was rightly pleased with the way his team played.

The Williams Lake dreamboat even scored a goal to cement a classic win for his team.

When Mather scored his second goal, his fairytale return was in full swing.

The only downside was that he didn’t score a third goal, but by then the tank was empty from years of inactivity.

Pepsi fought all the way to the end.

Eric Murphy scored his first goal of the campaign, but with no time left on the clock, they couldn’t change the outcome, as the game finished 3-1 in the Brew’s favour.
