The Battle of the Badges charity hockey game held in Whitehorse this past Sunday raised $6,500 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Marjorie Rogers of the Whitehorse branch of the Canadian Cancer Society reports that approximately $6,500 was raised through the Battle of the Badges "Guns Vs Hoses” charity hockey game held at the Takhini Arena.

The event was well attended and resulted in a 6-5 final score with the Whitehorse RCMP emerging as the victors.

"The real winner here was the Canadian Cancer Society which will benefit from the monies raised. We hope to make this an annual charity event between the RCMP and the Whitehorse area firefighters,” said Sgt. Don Roger.

"We would like to thank the various volunteers from the cancer society and all the businesses who were able to make donations and sponsor this event. Whitehorse RCMP would like to thank all of the participants who attended and volunteered their time for this event. We would also like to thank the public for their generous donations to a worthy cause.”
