Three Yukon figure skaters secured a total of seven first-place finishes in Armstrong, B.C., earlier this month.

Jamie Nickel, Bronwyn Hays and Sarah Milton represented the Arctic Edge Skating Club at the 2015 Okanagan Region Championships Feb. 13 to 15.

Nickel placed first in all four of her skates – Elements Group 1, Star 4 U13 Group 1, Bronze Creative Group 1 and Introductory Interpretive Group 1.

Hays earned first in her Elements 1 Group 2 skate, before placing second in Star 4 U13 Group 1, fourth in Bronze Creative Group 2, and sixth in Introductory Interpretive Group 1.

Milton nabbed first in Introductory Elements and Junior Bronze Solo Dance, as well as third in Bronze Creative Group 3 and fourth in Pre-Introductory Interpretive

“The skaters all performed well,” said coach Trish Pettitt, who attended the competition in Armstrong in support of the Yukon trio.

“The showing of these skaters is outstanding for the level of competition,” added Anne Milton of the Arctic Edge Skating Club.

Earlier this month, figure skater Alissa Russell represented the Yukon at Winterskate in Delta, B.C., finishing second out of five in the introductory interpretive category.

Meanwhile, at the Canada Winter Games yesterday, Special Olympics skater Michael Sumner finished just off the podium in the Level 2 event.
