The scouts were drooling at Takhini Arena this past week as young Devon Slade (well, young for oldtimers at 43) scored nine of his Firth team’s 16 goals in two wins in oldtimers action this past week.

Slade, eligible for the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, to be held at the Marine Midland Arena in Buffalo, New York on June 27, netted five goals Sunday to lead the Rangers past Yukon Inn 6-3. Kevin Topping got the other for Firth’s third straight victory. Greg Lane, Al Hansen and Erik von Flotow replied for YI.

EDI 11, Air North 7

Defence was jettisoned in this match as the line of Willy McKenna (three goals), Gus Morberg (two), and Derick Bilodeau (two) buzzed the Air North defence all night. Gerry Rivest, Geoff Quinsey, Dustin Heffner and newcomer Dan van der Linden added one each. For the airmen, it was Brian Currie and Dave White with two each, and solo shots from Mike Jim, Jason Steele and Ron Cruikshank.

Tim Hortons 3, Kilrich 1

Josh Savill scored the winner midway through the first period and the Timbits hung to a hard fought victory after that. Tim Turner-Davis and Stu MacMillan (on a nice snipe) rounded out the scoring. Ben Kielb replied for Kilrich.

Medicine Chest 4, CapriCMW 3

Brian Power was stellar in net for Capri, but couldn’t stop them all, as Michel Dubois, Phil MacDonald, Mervin Jacobsen and Garrett Kuptana snuck pucks past him. Capri counters were from Arlo O’Riordan with a pair, and Ben Campbell.

Thursday

Firth 10, Air North 2

Slade slid home four goals to pace Firth. Peter Johnson notched a hatty, and Marcello Masone and Kevin Topping popped a pair each. Ed van Randen and Ron Cruikshank replied for Air North.

Medicine Chest 7, Yukon Inn 2

John Pereira scored twice, Michel Dubois and Mike Gau scored shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill, and other MC goals were prescribed by Phil MacDonald, Ron Sumanik and Scott Olafson. Mike Blower and Greg Lane replied for the Inn.

Wednesday

Tim Hortons 5, EDI 3

Chris Carli netted two in the win (one an empty netter), Terry Joss netted the winner with only 2:27 left, and Dave Wipf and Tim Turner-Davis also scored for Timmies in a tight battle. Derek Bilodeau potted two in defeat, and Dustin Heffner got the other.
