Led by flamethrowers Huemul Mata and Roman Godoy, Argentina began their tournament by recording four straight shutouts.
The lone South American entry currently sits atop the standings with a 4-0 record.
Mata and Godoy are both returning players from Argentina’s 2012 team, which became the first South American team to win gold.
Mata – who threw a one-hitter in the gold-medal game in 2012 – showed his dominance in Argentina’s opening match against Mexico Friday.
Mata racked up 19 strikeouts on his way to a no-hitter in a 1-0 win that took an extra inning to decide.
On Saturday, Godoy followed up his teammate’s gem by throwing one of his own against the host Canadians.
Godoy picked up nine strikeouts in a 7-0 win, and also showed his mettle by escaping a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the third.
Yesterday, Godoy teamed up with reliever Franco Gini to shut out the Czech Republic 7-0, before Julian Fernandez and Gini shut down Singapore 7-0 in their second game of the day.
“We can play with them, but everything’s got to go right for us,” Canadian head coach Jim Jones said of the defending champs. “We want to play with the big boys ... That’s where we want to be.”
