Farrow seals the deal

Irishman Martin Farrow was Air North Rangers main man in the playoff final of the over-35’s soccer league, as he scored the goal that sealed the win for his team, as they beat Yukon Brewing 2-0.

Farrow’s Irish compatriot Ciaran Connolly often gets the plaudits, but this week it was his turn, as his well-taken goal finished a great passing move.

It was great to see both teams having a full bench for the pinnacle of indoor soccer, and what a great show they put on. Both teams have an array of superstars, and in the early exchanges they seemed to cancel each other out. Iain Breckenridge couldn’t repeat last week’s penalty heroics as James ‘The Panther’ McCullough in the Brewing net pulled off a great stop. This let-off could have been vital, but Phil Jackson scored shortly after half time for Air North to save the big Glaswegian blushes. Craig Caldwell for Yukon Brewing tried to rally his teammates but when Farrow scored the team ran of steam, as Air North ran the clock down for a deserved win.

At the awards ceremony after the game, the big winner was Sean Macdonald, who picked up the MVP trophy and the top keeper award. Andy Todd won the spirit trophy, while Jurgen Korn picked up 94% of the votes in the over 50 team of the year. Joining him were Jim Brown, Gord Barker, Mark O Brien, Chris Stacey and Phil Jackson.
