Darryl Steven Sheepway intends to appeal his second-degree murder conviction and his sentence for the 2015 murder of Christopher Brisson in Whitehorse.

Darryl Steven Sheepway intends to appeal his second-degree murder conviction and his sentence for the 2015 murder of Christopher Brisson in Whitehorse.

Sheepway, 40, filed the notice on May 17.

In the appeal notice, Sheepway indicates that he finds his conviction was unreasonable and the sentence imposed to be demonstrably unfit.

He indicated that he intends to review court transcripts, which in turn may identify additional grounds to argue.

In the event that the Yukon Court of Appeal grants him a new trial, Sheepway indicated that he wishes to proceed with a judge and jury trial. He intends to pursue options to be allowed to attend the appeal in person.

Sheepway was convicted of second-degree murder last Jan. 30 by Yukon Supreme Court Justice Leigh Gower.

The trial proceeded by judge only. The conviction landed him a sentence of life imprisonment.

At the sentencing hearing, Gower decided that Sheepway would not be eligible for parole for 13 years. A firearms prohibition, a DNA order and a $200 victim fine surcharge were included.

The sentence was imposed May 8. Sheepway is being held at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre.

Brisson was shot after a confrontation with Sheepway, who dumped his body over a steep hill in the Miles Canyon area.

Very troubling circumstances all around. In my experience, next to sociopaths, offenders like Sheepway are the worst kind. The narcissists who are unwilling to admit responsibility.

Sheepway can make an application for an appeal all he wants. The Supreme Court of Canada will weigh in on its merits and the fact that the Inmate didn't like the sentence or feels the judge was to harsh on him. Considered merits he was fairly tried and fairly convicted and fairly sentenced his appeal is going nowhere and the fact that he may never see his kids again is a sad story but his victim will never get to see his either. This guy is a ex guard who thinks he knows the system but just by him saying he's going to appeal shows his ignorance to the law and in fact the Supreme Court can add time to his sentence which they probably will do. Appeal away Sheepway and enjoy Kent maximum security you're gonna love it there. lol

Ya bring a loaded gun to a drug deal.
Ya blow away the drug dealer.
AND then claim that it was an accident.
How stupid does Sheepway think we are ?

I certainly hope that if this does go forward, and he loses, that he also has to pay the court costs. I'm sick and tired of my money paying for these losers to keep trying to beat the system.

Kids ....this is what happens when you do crack. You become a Sheepway. Even Sheepway doesn't want to be a Sheepway. We should make a Sheepway free zone.

Didn't I read months ago that he chose to have a trial-by-judge, instead of trial-by-jury.....? And now that he didn't get away with murder, he wants a do-over?? What a piece of work.
