Man charged with first-degree murder

A Whitehorse man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Christopher Brisson.

By Whitehorse Star on August 22, 2016

A Whitehorse man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Christopher Brisson.

Darryl Sheepway, 38, was arrested Friday, Whitehorse RCMP said in a statement.

The charges come almost a year after Brisson’s body was found near Miles Canyon on Sept. 1, 2015.

At the time, Brisson, 25, was serving a 45-month sentence for trafficking cocaine and weapons possession.

He had been granted statutory release from prison on several conditions including abstaining from alcohol and drug use.

Prior to release, Brisson had been living at the Yukon Adult Resource Centre (ARC).

He hadn’t breached any conditions.

Family members, the Parole Board of Canada, and staff at the ARC all said he was making good progress.

His sentence would have ended in April 2016.

Brisson’s death was treated as suspicious from early on in the investigation.

Sheepway will make his second appearance in territorial court on Sept. 9.

Sheepway is currently in custody.

Nobody deserves to be murdered for selling drugs but running the risk of encountering serious trouble certainly goes with the territory. Lots of addicts losing their composure. It’s always been a dangerous occupation.

Terrible how the crack cocaine turns people into someone they never would have normally been. It’s time to get this sh** off the streets.

This case is taking way too long to progress, it has been nearly eight months since the RCMP learned that Darryl was involved in the murder of Mr. Brisson. Pathetic.

Dm. I do know a lot more then you guys will ever know. Christopher was my brother. He was a good kid. He made a few bad choices in his life but would never harm anyone. Yes I will be there at the trial to see that low life's face. I have a lot to say to him. So don't tell me to calm down you have no idea what it is like to learn that your brother was missing for 5 days and then his body was found in a ditch. I don't even have to say the emotions we've been through are beyond horrific. And just like everyone we were kept in the dark. We didn't know the cause of death until a charge was laid. A year of going through scenarios of what could have happened has made me a really angry person and as well, I could go on with my other members but I'll save it for court. You're holding onto someone you use to know. Now you're trying to protect a monster.

Yes Susan these new charges against Darryl seem to be true and if you read the article correctly, he was not arrested in Ontario, in September, he committed the robberies in Ontario November 2015, never judge a book by its cover

New allegations against a Darryl Stephen Sheepway of Whitehorse in connections with robberies in Norfolk County in Ontario Nov 2015. Is this the same Darryl Stephen Sheepway of Whitehorse that was charged in the Murder of Chris Brisson? Coincidence or?

Leanne. Seriously? You are going to ask that we keep our rude comments to ourselves? I had to witness the devastation of Christopher's father. You have no right to ask for anything since Darryl is still alive.

So sad someone had to die and two families with little children are left with no father to take care of them. I hope justice and the truth will come out of this. It is to sad that Chris had to die the way he did. I hope this gives the Brisson family some sort of closure. Sad story all around. RIP Christopher.

June Jackson, maybe you should wait to make a discussion about how he died and what that means about the person who killed him, until you actually know how he died. "It is my understanding", is like using the word, 'clearly'. It general means you don't know.

Ignore the idiots and trolls here Leeanne. There are a lot of people in town who know and support Darryl.
My thoughts go out to both families.

Its my understanding that Mr. Brisson was beaten to death...That is a particularly brutal way for anyone one to die, but different from other types of murder, a beating can be stopped at any time..It take a conscious decision to keep going...

No matter what the reason for this death was, I seriously doubt it was merited. As I read it, Mr. Brisson served his time for his criminal activity, was not on any RCMP watch list for re offending and had made remarkable gains in his effort to turn his life around.

That being said... murder, in this case is murder, no mitigating circumstance, no excuses. A life is gone a life is ruined. Whether Mr. Sheepway murdered Mr. Brisson or not will be determined in court.. but whoever did it should be in a penitentiary for the rest of his life and get the same freedoms as Mr. Brisson..

Dr Dave, yes this is the Darryl sheepway with all the Mush dogs, and if anyone else finds this hard to believe that such a loving family man would do this, it's true, it's amazing how drugs control you...the paper doesn't lie, and it's sad, it's his family that suffers. Hope the Brisson's has closure.

Stephanie, you don't know that he actually did kill Brisson. He has been charged. Based on what? An 'eye-witness' drug dealer? Legitimate sources? We don't know. But don't start off with 'he has caused' this that and the other thing. The trial has not happened and Darryl might have something to say about what went down. If he was even there. I'm assuming there is good cause to press charges but there's a reason that there is a trial. If you knew Darryl you might find it hard to believe he just up and killed someone.

Hello Roger...please, really please KEEP broadcasting your personal views and opinions as we still have a right of freedom of expression.
The way things are rapidly devolving it could be a right soon in a museum.
Many folks feel they have some right to be never offended, ummm so so wrong!!
Quite contrary we have that right to say things people residing in a FREE world say because we loath fascists, many lay dead in unmarked graves for said right.
I myself do not live in North Korea, or a Sharia country (yet...eh Justine?) and take my rights very, very seriously.
Actually Roger get waaaaay louder with your viewpoints, as rights not exercised get legislated away via HRC's and other engineering depts. of a socialist governments that view us as mere subjects...to be told how to talk, whom to talk with, and when is a good time to talk.
Hence my very existence and corresponding volume and tenacity.

Roger, enjoy your day and please...carry on.

This may have had something to do with drug trade. Lets await the trial before judging.

Holy crap, calm down there, Stephanie... You're jumping the gun bit, don't you think...? Unless you know something, FOR A FACT, then you shouldn't say anything. And if you DO know something, I certainly hope you share it with the RCMP. I can't believe the number of people in these comment sections that are so horny for blood that they leave their common sense at the door.

Roger...assuming he gets convicted, may not depending on his ethnicity?
That said, if he is a whitey the full force of the law may hit him.
In regards to getting what is coming...he will get all that is coming his way.
Free food...free rent...free dental care...free edumicatshun...free advocacy for him self and others of his ilk...but of course free legal team...free conjugal visits from whichever of the 7 thus far genders desired...yeah heaps will be coming his way.
If it falls into the culture aspect this case, as in regular ol' whitey not being accused, could be the toughest few months away from his culture.

It seems impossible that this could be true. I've only known Darryl through skijoring and I guess it's going back a couple of years, but he was devoted to his dogs, he was into competition and dog sports, had a great wife and seemed to love his very young children a lot. It is hard for me to believe that the person I knew has now killed someone. Sorry, I can't wrap my head around this. I can't imagine what kind of a story is going to come out in court but I have little doubt it involves hard drugs and people from outside the territory. Did he even do it?
