The territory’s Department of Health and Social Services has provided emergency funds to its clients whose homes were destroyed by fire last Sunday.

The blaze ripped through a nine-unit apartment building on Galena Road over the course of 12 hours.

Firefighters eventually had to tear walls down with a backhoe after the roof caved in.

With nine homes lost in the fire, Health and Social Services has distributed emergency funds to help cover the costs of food, shelter and clothing to its clients.

It’s also helping those who may not have anyone to stay with in the short term, find accommodations, said department’s spokeswoman Michelle Bolleen.

Others who lived in the units may be going through insurance they have, or may receive assistance from their First Nation or federal programs, she said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There was a FB request from a fire victim asking for some community assistance. There were an awful lot of people with big hearts offering excellent condition clothing, some of it new, furniture etc. They can get all new now.. unless they have a job.. SA is apparently only looking after their clients.. if you have a job, they might help you find short term accommodation, and hope you have insurance.

In a case like this..my feeling is.. fire is fire.. everyone suffers and everyone should be treated equally. They gonna' buy 1 a new bed.. you buy everyone a new bed.
Before I donate more now, I'll be asking.. are you covered under SA? and I will be helping out as much as I can the people who say.. nope..
