Counterfeit U.S. $100 bills are being passed in Whitehorse, the RCMP said Tuesday.

Police are warning local business owners and the public about the bogus bills.

Since last Wednesday, police have received several reports relating to the fake U.S. $100 bills being passed to businesses.

Police are advising local merchants and the public to carefully examine any U.S. bills they come into contact with – including those with the serial numbers HF01744544C and HF01744518C, as they may be counterfeit.

“For information on security features that can help you determine if a U.S. bank note is genuine, please visit the U.S. Currency Education Program website,” police advised.

“If you are a local business who may have recently encountered a suspicious transaction potentially involving a counterfeit bill, please contact Whitehorse RCMP with any information you may have, including suspect descriptions and security video footage if available.”

Police remind the public that it is an offence to recirculate a counterfeit bill.

Anyone encountering what they believe is counterfeit currency should report it to the police.

Anyone with information about counterfeit currency circulating in the Yukon is asked to contact police at 667-5555.

Not surprising. The US refuses to withdraw older banknotes, so fakers simply copy earlier designs that have fewer anti-counterfeiting features.

Bogus bills eh?
Not the only bogus we have in our community.
Political correctness...bogus.
Revisionist history...bogus.
Fluid gender bending...totally bogus.
Public safety...redefining bogus.
Political concerns for ALL of our citizens...yup that too very bogus.
Thee most bogus of all?
The fools in our hall and many of their “managers” claiming they on our behalf are “striving for perfection”

Yes there is a economic cost to having counterfeit cash circulating.
So too is there for tolerating idiots and their crusades, projecting their virtue with our cash.
Yes we have bogus in our community all right....heaps of it, least of which is Yankee money.
