Whitehorse RCMP and the Whitehorse Fire Department are investigating a fire that burned the main building, garage and an RV at the Mountain Ridge Motel on the Alaska Highway on Monday morning.

Another vehicle on the property, located south of Robert Service Way, suffered heat damage.

Chris Green, deputy fire chief for the Whitehorse department, said Monday afternoon he was on his way into work that morning when he saw the blaze.

He called it into the station at around 7:45.

Firefighters who were on duty were already getting set to respond to earlier calls about it.

โ€œIt was fully involved,โ€ Green said of the fire.

With no hydrants in the area, Whitehorse received help from the Mt. Lorne and Golden Horn fire departments. Their personnel arrived with their own pumpers to complement the two Whitehorse had on the scene.

Whitehorse also had a rescue vehicle and utility truck on hand.

Green noted the help of the other two departments was greatly appreciated by the Whitehorse crew members.

Eleven to 14 firefighters from the three departments remained on the scene for several hours, keeping the fire contained to one area.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters were able to help out about four people at the motel along with a number of pets that were there with their owners.

Others in the motel were able to make it out safely, Green said.

Firefighters were on the scene until shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The investigation into the cause will likely continue for some time, Green said.

Insurance claim perhaps! The new owner shut the motel and RV down and turned the place into a vehicle dump. And I won't say publicly what the rest of the place was turned into.

I have no doubt the fire crews did what they could in a timely fashion, good job crew. No hydrants...eh? If I may might I chime in on a point or two? Thank you, how many times have we heard the CoW bleat we need this that and of course all the other things?
Often ridiculously compared to some region with jack in common with our actual community. One thing I feel is virtually universal is the ability of city businesses and home owners to be able to use some of the gaaaaaazzzillion litres of all this water passing by us.... to put fires out! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

We have been paying via high insurance rates both home owners and businesses as a result of hillbilly planning.
Nope scratch that hillbillies are smarter than city planners.
The powers that be sell and market this place, but with their head stuffed deep in their colon. Tax and spend like a swank progressive new age hipster town toiling the virtues of the tolerance and inclusion....cuz that is the most pressing issue in these parts?
Funny that for most folks, those hydrants, well them are for those fancy towns. Thus...we pay. Despite our best efforts we cannot seem to figure a way to use transfer payments, free other cash (wtf...e) sent from Ottawa to have such a 1st world feature as them swank fire hydrants.

I wished we would run this place as it is built..."cottage country" with a budget a wee place needs...not merely wants.
Funny we have building codes to build our homes, but seemingly none for building an alleged capital city in a first world?

Totally reminds me of Monty Python....better...better get a bucket!
Maybe outfit WFD with giant fireproof rainbow blankets to smother the flames?
Perhaps we should put a moratorium on special interest funding, pass a fiscal responsibility by-law, suckhole up to the part time substitute drama teacher and get on it?
After all it is 2017.... paraphrasing said fortunate son.

This is no surprise. The new owners turned a good business into a garbage dump. Something like this or worse was bound to happen sooner or later. This turn of events with an irresponsible new owner is truly unfortunate for long-term tenants.
