WOHL: Morberg dominates, Medicine Chest outlasts previously unbeaten Firth

Here are the results from last week’s Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey League games:

Wednesday:

Yukon Inn 5, CapriCMW 4

The Inn men roared out to a 4-0 lead and held off a spirited Capri rally. Kevin Topping topped the scoring with a pair in the win, and Walt Liley, Kevin Johnstone and Blaine Demchuk added solo shots. For Capri, it was Ben Campbell, Ed van Randen, Arlo O’Riordan and Dave Wipf with goals.

Air North 7, EDI 4

Pete Mostyn and Kevin Neufeld soared two goals each for the flyboys, and James Pugsley, Dustin Heffner and Derek Bilodeau had one apiece. For EDI, marksmen were Mervin Jacobsen, Nathan Bingham, Clint Ireland and Peter Johnston.

Thursday:

Firth 5, Kilrich 4

Ben Kielb scored his third goal of the game with only 14 seconds left to lift Firth to a win over Kilrich in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Thursday night at Takhini Arena. Shawn Kinsella (three helpers) and Chris Carli also scored in victory as Firth remained unbeaten this season. Scott Palfreyman and Chris Lane each scored twice for the lumber lads.

Medicine Chest 5, Tim Hortons 3

Also Thursday, Medicine Chest overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat Tim Hortons. Martin Lawrie netted two for the Chest, and Lester Balsillie, Geordan Clark and Gus Morberg (three apples) also scored. Willy McKenna, Mike Gau and Pat Shaw replied for the coffee crew.

Sunday:

Medicine Chest 9, Firth 8

Gus Morberg was scary good as he scored his fifth goal of the game (one on a penalty shot) with 2:48 on the clock to give Medicine Chest a wild win over Firth in Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey action Sunday night at Takhini Arena. The loss was Firth’s first defeat of the season.

Ken Vickerman also scared up a couple of goals for the Chest, and singles came from Colin Nash and Michael Svoboda. Shawn Kinsella and Ben Kielb each netted three for Firth, and Nate Clark got the other two.

Tim Hortons 8, EDI 3

Chris Nash haunted EDI defenders with three goals and two assists, Mike Gau potted two, and one apiece came off the broomsticks of Pat Shaw, Mike Blower and Willy McKenna. For EDI, it was Myles Dolphin, Mervin Jacobsen and Matt King (on a ‘nifty’ deke) supplying the offence.

Air North 1, Yukon Inn 1

Rob Green scored with 1:53 left in the game to earn Yukon Inn a point in the standings. Ty Heffner was the Air North marksman.

Kilrich 7, CapriCMW 3

Scott Palfreyman continued his torrid scoring pace as he tallied three taters for the Kilrich crew. Johnny Sembsmoen, Bryar Young, Greg Charlie and Darryl Cann also made the scoresheet. Capri’s damage was done by Greg Lane with a pair and Arlo O’Riordan with a single.
