WOHL: CapriCMW upsets Kilrich; Adilman scores rare goal

Following a brief break, the Whitehorse Oldtimers Hockey league is in full swing again.

Here are the results.

Wednesday

EDI 6, Air North 6

Dale Gray deftly deflected a Brian Currie point shot into the twine with only 20 seconds left in the game to earn EDI the tie. Matt King and Mervin Jacobsen each contributed two for the Dynamic crew, and Ian Boyce got the other. For Air North, Dustin Heffner scored his fifth and sixth goals in the past two games to pace the flyers. Pete Mostyn also netted two, and David Bakica and Ty Heffner chipped in one apiece.

Yukon Inn 9, CapriCMW 6

The Inn built up 4-0 and 5-1 leads only, to watch Capri storm back to tie it 5-5 early in the second frame, but the Inn rediscovered their scoring touch and ended up outscoring Capri three field goals to two. Kevin Topping, Blaine Demchuk and Rob Green each served up two goals in the win, and singles came from Russ McDiarmid, Jeff Jensen and Steve Arrell. Capri’s markers came from Greg Lane and Ed van Randen with a pair each, and solo efforts from Alfred Feldman and Al Hansen.

Thursday

Tim Hortons 7, Medicine Chest 1

The luck of the Irish was with Tim Hortons Thursday night as gritty winger Martin O’Hagan rifled home a couple of goals to pace the Timbits to a win over Medicine Chest in Oldtimers hockey action at Takhini Arena. Chris Nash also popped a pair in victory, and singles came from coffee magnate Doug Terry and Willy McKenna. Colin Nash drilled the lone Chest goal.

Firth 5, Kilrich 2

Also Thursday, Nate Clark recorded the evening’s lone hat trick, and Chris Carli and Marcello Masone added one apiece for Firth. Anthony Grottoli and Scott Palfreyman replied for Kilrich.

Sunday

CapriCMW 6, Kilrich 5

Ed van Randen’s second goal late in the game proved to be the winner as CapriCMW upset Kilrich in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey play Sunday at Takhini Arena. Ben ‘Soupy’ Campbell also served up a couple of goals, and Al Hansen and Dave Wipf added singles in victory. Dan Johnson and Scott Palfreymen each pegged a pair for Kilrich, and Greg Charlie got the other.

Yukon Inn 7, Air North 0

Jim Antonissen stopped all to earn the shutout. Walt Liley and Gary McKellar each cleaned up with hat tricks, and Steve Arrell collected the other goal.

Firth 8, Medicine Chest 2

Nate Clark led a balanced Firth attack with two goals, and six other skaters had single markers - Chris Carli, Duane Purych, John Pereira, Peter Kirby, Marcello Masone and Mark Bowen. For Medicine Chest, it was Geordan Clark and Dave Ecker with goals.

Tim Hortons 5, EDI 1

Five different scorers led the donut gang to victory - Lorne Burnett, Willy McKenna, Mike Gau, Bernie Adilman (finally!) and Pat Shaw. Ian Boyce spoiled the shutout for EDI.

TA Firth and the Yukon Inn are tied atop the standings with 22 points apiece, although Firth has a game in hand.

In the WOHL scoring race, slick Firth centre Nate Clark leads with 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points in nine games.

Top goalies are Kilrich’s Darryl Cann (1.50 GAA in 2 games) and Yukon Inn’s Jim Antonissen (10 wins, 2.79 GAA) .
