Triniti / JPR grabs early lead in FCBLY 15th basketball tournament

The Filipino Canadian Basketball League Yukon held their 15th basketball tournament Saturday and Sunday at F.H. Collins Secondary School in Whitehorse.

The Filipino Canadian Basketball League Yukon held their 15th basketball tournament Saturday and Sunday at F.H. Collins Secondary School in Whitehorse.

In the 16 Under division on Sunday, Pizza Hut edged MPM 74-72 for third place.

The top scorers for Pizza Hut were Quinn Monahan with 37 points and John Musiime with 15.

Pier DeLeon netted 35 points and Enrique Miral chipped in with 17 for MPM.

The 16 Under Championship game saw Air North Jets rocket to a victory over All Pro Yukon Restoration 72-48.

Isiah Cabiso led the Jets with 27 points and Gabe Thomson added 15.

Brittony Pagobo led the way for All Pro with 24 points and and Chase Tuton chipped in with 10.

Brittony Pagobo captured the Season MVP award.

Isiah Cabiso netted the Finals MVP award.

The Mythical 5 were:

Game 1 of the 35 Under Division took place Sunday evening, with Triniti Dental / JPR Cleaning Services pulling away in the third quarter and cruising to a 105-91 victory over defending champion Cornerstone Construction.

Top scorers for Triniti Dental were Nico Sarmiento with 30, Ian New with 23, and Josh Rumbaoa, Chad Williams and Sam Wilson with 11 each.

For Cornerstone, Bryan Hermosa led the way with 31 points, followed by Ralph Hermosa with 18. Matthias Lightstone scored 15 points, mostly at close range, and Patrick Tesoro added 10.

Game 2 of the series will tip off Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at F.H. Collins.
