The Westmark goal machine rolls on

Unbeaten Westmark eased to another win

By Freelancer on October 28, 2019

Unbeaten Westmark eased to another win to maintain their unbeaten start to the over 35’s soccer season with a 7-1 victory over Klondike Business Solutions. KBS were understrength and Westmark exploited that with clinical precision.

Superstars Justin Carre and Graham White both grabbed two goals each to help their cause, skipper Oscar Pacheco got one, as did the fastest and most handsome player in the league Jason Steele, while super sub Brain Fiddler scored against KBS for the third week in a row. Westmark must be seriously thinking about going the season unbeaten as this was the final game of the first round of games, and they haven’t been truly challenged yet.

KBS on the other hand need their players back if they are to be competitive as the gulf between these two sides was evident. Guest player Jan van den Hoorn got the KBS consolation goal.

Gortari leads Driving Force
to victory

The 10 a.m. game was between the high-flying Driving Force and the basement dwellers Pepsi. It was Pepsi who started with more intent, however, when the magnificent Marcelo Gortari’s slide rule finish passed a flat footed Charlie Hoeller to take the lead it looked like a familiar story was taking shape for the men in red. Then against the odds, Pepsi, using their energy and high-press tactics, (reminiscent of another team in red) went through the gears and took a commanding 4-1 lead with two fine goals from sub Gord Barker and one apiece from gentleman Jim Brown and David Rayo.

So that was the fairytale comeback that Pepsi have been threatening to deliver, but now back to the harsh realities of soccer. Over the course of the remaining 30 minutes some sloppy play and a harsh hand ball brought the two teams back on level terms. With the teams tied, it was looking like a fair result but then in the dying moments the Pepsi keeper was adjudged to have taken out Eric Murphy. Predictably the penalty was scored and Driving Force secured the win with their fourth unanswered goal. Driving Force goals were scored by Gortari two, Murphy two and Miles Hume one.

Yukon Brewing grind
out the win

Yukon Brewing has found the formula for winning games, chief strategist Iain Breckenridge was watching old

Mohammad Ali fights and decided that the ‘rope a dope’ approach would work well against the teams in the league.

This proved to be very effective as Yukon Info.com blew themselves out as they crashed against the duel rocks of captain Mark O’Brien and Breckenridge.

Danny Macdonald and Phil Jackson got the Yukon Info goals but couldn’t find any more luck, as new dad George Maratos celebrated the birth of his daughter with two goals for the Brew while Michael Zuccarini got the other. Yukon Brewing‘s win moved them into the top half of the table.

For Yukon Info this was a setback as they welcomed players back into the fold and were hoping to put a challenge in for the league title. They will be hopeful for a better performance against Pepsi next week.
