Yukon Brewing Grind it Out

In the early game on Saturday morning, Driving Force took on league-leading Yukon Brewing. In a well-balanced and open first half, the lead swung back and forth and ended 4-3 to Brewing. Seven great goals and seven scorers – an entertaining first 25 minutes.

The second half started as the first half ended, with Mike Zuccarini extending Brewing’s lead, but then Driving Force exerted real pressure with wave after wave of attacking zeal.

Graham Sim epitomized their efforts; he lost his boots, and lost his glasses, but he never lost his legs. With five minutes to go, Driving Force snatched a deserved goal to bring the difference to one. In true league-leading style, however, the Brewers went back up the pitch and crafted a well-worked goal to get the gap back to two, and that is how the game closed out.

Scorers for Yukon Brewing were Guliano Rayo, Shawn Fearon, Mike Zuccarini (2), Charlie McLeod, and Eric McDonald. Scorers for Driving Force were Ben Mercier, Miles Dolphin (2), and Phil Jackson.

The Crowd Roared “Nuts”

In the late game, Pepsi locked horns with Klondike Business Solutions, in a much tighter and tetchy affair.

The first half was full of effort and attempts, but both teams lacked the precision of the early game. The deadlock was broken by Jason Steele’s well-placed up and under, and assisted by Jaan Aalt van den Hoorn.

The second half continued in the same fast and furious vain, with Gord Barker taking one for the team; but that’s not what got the hoards calling “nuts.”

That honour went to John McPhail, who was a little late in closing his legs and could do little to stop the ball get passed through him. KBS got the equalizer with Franklin Fru’s fine finish, and Fru was instrumental in their second goal, with a deft lob over the top for Jim Brown to steer home.

With KBS looking to take all the points, that red devil and talisman Danny McDonald scored one of his trademark goals to set up an intriguing finale; however, despite the end-to-end play, it ended with honours even.

With three weeks to go, all four playoff spots are still up for grabs; each point and goal is being hotly contested as league and individual honours are still wide open.
