Hats off for O’Brien

Mark O’Brien is having a stellar year in over 35’s soccer. Not only is his team Yukon Brewing six points clear at the top of the league, he also bagged a classy hat-trick to move to the fringes of the golden boot race.

This game, at the Canada Games Centre on Saturday, was like a heavyweight prizefight as both teams circled each other trying to land the knock out blow. Both Yukon Brewing and Yukon Info.com came into the match in fine form so it was going to take something special and that came from Irish slugger O’Brien. He seemed to be everywhere; breaking up opponents attacks then firing in goals from all angles. Guliano Rayo who has been nursing an injury all season, found his shooting boots grabbing two goals, helped O’Brien to ease away from a battling Yukon Info team.

The news that hotshot goalscorer Eric Murphy may be out for a few weeks with a foot injury took the gloss off the win, and they will need O’Brien to fire in the goals in his absence.

For Yukon Info, slim Jim Brown has found as he loses the pounds his scoring prowess increases. He picked up the consolation goal for the Orangemen and they will have to find a way to score more goals next week.

Adams last stand enough for KBS

Cory Adams is the last line of defence for Klondike Business Solutions, and without him, they would have lost this game against Driving Force. He made a number of fine saves to ensure that KBS would pick up their second win of the season.

Adams flung himself around his defensive area and the Driving Force forwards found it difficult to get past him, he was helped by an increased intensity from the men directly in front of him. Goher Hafeez, Gareth Howells, and Iain Breckenridge all put in a great shift in defence.

David Rayo had a commanding game in midfield intercepting everything that came near him as Driving Force found KBS very difficult to break down. This game was played at a very high tempo and there were a lot of tired legs at the conclusion of this contest but the crowd appreciated the effort both teams put into the match as they crawled off the pitch.

Strikers Andy Todd and James McCullough both got a goal for KBS, while Myles Dolphin got one back for Driving Force.

All the teams will receive a new player after this round of games and it will be interesting how they can influence their respective teams.
