Breckenridge 3 timer downs Pepsi

Iain Breckenridge was Klondike Business Solution’s hero on Saturday as he scored three to help his team to a 6-4 win over Pepsi in over-35 soccer action.

Breckenridge couldn’t hit a barn door from 10 paces early in the season, but now is a regular on the scoresheet and he needed to be as KBS came back from 4-2 down to win the game.

Pepsi had their chances to seal the victory, but Danny Macdonald was strangely out of form missing more chances than anyone can remember, while John MacPhail (who is leaving the territory for a month to join the senior shuffleboard world tour), missed a chance that was easier to score than put it high into the netting. Franklin Fru even tried to help out Pepsi when he struck an own goal while in the opposition half. He did redeem himself with a goal for his own, leaving it to Breckenridge to score the winning goals to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Andy Todd picked up the other goals for KBS, while a rare Joe Morrison goal, another own goal, and Macdonald rounded out the scoring for Pepsi.

Driving Force fight is in vain

Driving Force have picked up their form in the last few games, but it wasn’t enough to topple champions elect Yukon Brewing, going down 3-1 in the late game at the Canada Games Centre.

There was great energy from the boys in white as they pressed the Brew high up the pitch, which led to a goal from last week’s man of the match Ciaran Connely, but as the game continued Driving Force ran out of steam as all their hard work began to show. They couldn’t maintain their intensity and Yukon Brewing had them in their vice, slowly squeezing the life out of them. Mark O’Brien, Keith Maguire, and Sean Fearon all scored to make it a good day in the workshop and increase their lead in the league. It will now need a disaster of biblical proportions for them not to raise the league trophy this year.

There are no games this weekend as the Special Olympics has their annual tournament.
