Over-35 Men's Soccer: Air North survive massive scare

Air North Rangers, the number one seed, had to dig deep to overcome Klondike Office Systems in the first semi final of the morning Saturday. KOS started the game brightly as they tore into Air North, banging in a couple of goals before the opposition had woken up. Sandy Gross was again in top form and was linking up well with Mick Marceau as Gross picked up a couple of goals. Leonard Linklater picked out Graham Sim with a superb pass for him to slot home to leave the game 3-1 at half time.

Air North was like a wounded animal; they were down but came out fighting after some inspirational words from captain Iain Breckenridge. They never panicked, even when the clock was ticking away. Cometh the hour cometh the man, and Air North had two heros in their midst, Craig Caldwell and Franklin Fru, who both were architects of KOS’s demise. Fru got two goals and Caldwell one with powerful and accurate shots that gave keeper Alejandro Pulido no chance. Roger Hosking picked up the other goal as Air North moved into the final.

Yukoninfo.com move into final

Yukoninfo had to be at their best to beat Pepsi in the second semi final, as they eased to a 3-0 win. This game was always going to be a tight affair, as both teams were well matched.

Pepsi worked hard to cover all the threats that Yukonnfo.com had but it was a herculean task with skipper Ciaran Connolly trying hard to be everywhere on the pitch at once. Once Yukoninfo.com scored their first goal, Pepsi were in trouble, as they devoted much of their effort in defence. Mikey Jones was having his best game in his team's colours. He may have little legs but he covered the ground like a whippet chasing a hare.

Matthias Hartmann and Justin Carre both scored before a sickening clash of heads between Hartmann and Pepsi’s Graham White which left both leaving the game and needing treatment. The game never really hit the same intensity after that, although Carre did score another goal to make the game safe for Yukoninfo.com.

The final kicks off Saturday at the CGC at 11:00 a.m. Admission is free to see the pinnacle of soccer in the territory.

Driving Force win testy contest

In a testy game, Driving Force overcame Yukon Brewing 3-2 in the other game of the day. Chris Stacey, Jonathon Hawkins and David Rayo scored for Driving Force, while Derek Funk got two for his Yukon Brewing team. These teams will play against each other for the 5th/6th place, and Pepsi and Klondike Business Solutions will contest for the 3rd/4th position.
