Pepsi crushes Yukoninfo.com

Yukoninfo.com’s unbeaten start to the season came to an unceremonious end as Pepsi blasted them 8-1 in Over-35 soccer action.

The writing was on the wall very early in the game as Pepsi raced to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Yukoninfo.com were missing Matthias Hartmann, who has gone back to Germany for the rest of the season, but that was no excuse for their capitulation.

Pepsi were good, though, as the holy trinity of Danny Macdonald, Justin Carre and River Walton all scored two goals each, and ran YukonInfo ragged for most of the match. Yukoninfo.com seemed to lose all of their shape as they tried to combat wave after wave of Pepsi attacks, and as they pressed for goals themselves, they were getting caught on the break.

Mark O Brien did get a consolation goal but it was much too little, much too late. Brian Hegarty and Nathan Bingham rounded out the scoring for Pepsi.

Driving Force win a bad-tempered game

When you watch Driving Force you expect entertainment, and you didn’t go home unsatisfied after they pulled out a 4-3 win over Yukon Brewing. Driving Force picked up Danny Macdonald as a sub and were rewarded with a man of the match performance, as he scored two goals and greased the wheels of the Driving Force machine. Driving Force plays with a joie de vivre which makes it hard for anyone to deny them any success they achieve. Jesse Koeller and Guliano Rayo were again on the scoresheet as their free-flowing approach to the game yielded results.

The game came alive when Fabian Gylka and George Maratos got sent off for an altercation down by the boards, which enthralled the packed crowd and made the win even more sweet for Driving Force. Gylka and Marcello Gortari, with two, got the Yukon Brewing goals.

Funk slam dunks KBS

Derek Funk already has a street named after him in Williams Lake, and after his performance on Saturday, the CGC may have to change its name to the Canada Funk Centre. His goal was the difference between the two sides as previously winless Air North Rangers beat Klondike Business Solutions 2-1 for their first three points of the season.

The win was a triumph for skipper Iain Breckenridge, as he masterminded the downfall of a very talented KBS team.

Breckenridge likes to play the game slowly and frustrate the opposition into making mistakes, which is exactly what happened. The game was very cagey, with nothing to separate the two sides. Miles Hume got the first Air North goal, with Greg Grady replying for KBS.

With the game seemingly heading towards a tie, Funk was able to connect with the ball with his big toe to send Air North into raptures.

The result changes nothing in the league standings, as all the top three teams lost, but it will give the Rangers some confidence in the coming weeks.
