A few months off skates didn’t affect 73-year-old Bernie Heffner as he made his presence felt for Tim Hortons in their 6-3 win over Medicine Chest in Senior Circuit action of Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey Sunday at Takhini Arena. The septuagenarian scored once and added an assist, and 69+-year-old Jeff Hunston was also a factor, scoring twice in the win. Other Timbits to tickle the twine were Mike Jim, Mike Sage, and Lorne Burnett. For the Chest, it was Ron Cruikshank, Dave White and Pete Mostyn.

The second Senior tilt saw Air North snap their losing streak with a 3-1 win over EDI. Russell Bamford was a force for Air North, scoring once and nearly converting several other chances. Adam Green and Doug Janzen also landed goals for the Jets. EDI’s lone marker came from Tim Turner-Davis.

In Junior division action, Yukon Inn handed Kilrich only their fourth loss of the season in a 7-4 decision. Walt Liley came out hot early, scoring the Inn’s first three goals before the game was eight minutes old. Shawn Kinsella added a pair, and Russ McDiarmid and Chad Cowan each netted one. For Kilrich, it was Ed van Randen with a pair, and Dale Grey and Brian Currie (a shorty) with the goals.

And CapriCMW thumped the Firth Rangers 10-4 on the strength of two goals each by Pat Tobler, Briar Young, and Scott Palfreyman. Other Capri snipers were Blayne Monahan, Blaine Demchuk, Geordan Clark, and Gary McKellar. Replying for Firth were Mike Gau, Gerry Brandt, Dustin Heffner, and Elgin Schwantz.

Last Thursday:

Colin Nash flossed the CapriCMW defence for a couple of goals to lead his Yukon Inn team to a 5-2 victory in Junior Circuit action of Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey Thursday night at Takhini Arena. Shawn Kinsella, Walt Liley (finally!), and Tyson Wirth also scored for the Inn. For Capri, it was Kevin Johnstone, and Chris Carli with the goals.

The other Junior match saw Kilrich nail Firth by a 7-3 final score. Noted Packers’ fan Arlo O’Riordan and Derek Bilodeau each netted two goals for the lumbermen, and Brian Currie, Myles Dolphin and Ed van Randen each contributed one. Mike Gau, Peter Johnston, and Greg Charlie did the damage for Firth.

Last Wednesday:

Wednesday in the Senior saw-offs, Medicine Chest doubled EDI 6-3 and Tim Hortons grounded Air North 4-1. Pete Mostyn led the charge for the Chest with three goals (one a walk around Bobby Allison), and Ian Boyce, Mervyn Jacobson (first of the season), and Martin Lawrie had one apiece. For EDI, it was Brian Gudmundson, Jeff Jensen, and Rick Smith with markers.

Greg Lane led Tims again with a pair of goals, and D-men Lorne Burnett and George Morgan each pinched and got goals. Rob Furlong spoiled the shutout with Air North’s goal late in the final period.
