Oldtimers keep potting the goals

Greg Lane scored the game winner midway through the second period to give Tim Hortons a hard-fought 3-2 win over Air North in Senior Circuit oldtimers hockey action Sunday night at Takhini Arena. Lane’s game-winner also clinched the regular season title for the Timbits, who will now shift their focus to honing their left-wing lock defensive strategy for the tough playoff battles to come. Mike Sage and Jeff Hunston also scored for the coffee crew, and Dave Wipf and Rob Furlong replied for Air North.

In the other Senior match, Rick Smith completed his hat trick with only 1:12 on the clock to give EDI a 3-2 win over Medicine Chest. Al Hansen and a resurgent Dave Bakica with his 15th (wowsers) goal of the season, replied for Medicine Chest.

In Junior action, Walt Liley lit up the scoresheet in Yukon Inn’s 5-1 victory over CapriCMW. Liley lumbered for one goal, three assists and two penalties to pace the Innkeepers. Shifty Nate Clark added a pair of goals, and Chad Cowan and Alfred Feldman rounded out the Inn scoring. For Capri, it was Chris Carli with the goal.

And Kilrich got two goals from Derek Bilodeau in their 6-3 win over Firth. Mark King, Ed van Randen, Brian Currie and Ben Kielb also netted markers in victory. Peter Johnson popped in two for Firth, and Marcel Barrault got the other.

Last Thursday:

Mark King scored with 6:11 left on the clock to secure a 6-6 tie for Kilrich Thursday in their game against CapriCMW, but more importantly, the point clinched first place for Kilrich in the Junior Circuit season standings.

Ben Kielb added two for Kilrich in the seesaw after, and singles came from Brian Currie, Chris Nash and Arlo O’Riordan. Geordan Clark netted three for Capri, and solo efforts came from Kevin Johnstone, Blayne Monahan and Gary McKellar.

The other game saw Yukon Inn down Firth 8-1 on the back of Joel Witten, who netted a hat trick. Walt Liley added a pair of markers, and single scores came off the sticks of Russ McDiarmid, Colin Nash and James Pugsley. Dustin Heffner spoiled the shutout for Firth.

Last Wednesday:

In Senior play Wednesday night, Tim Horton’s Floyd “Bunny” McCormick was solid between the pipes causing EDI to put up a donut in the latter’s 1-0 loss to McCormick’s team. Garrett Kuptana scored the lone goal for Timmy’s on a nifty feed from team president Doug Terry.

The second Senior soiree saw Air North jet to their fourth straight win, 4-2 over Medicine Chest. Adam Green continued his goal scoring tear with two for Air North, and Carl Cibart and Steve Arrell potted the other two. Mervin Jacobsen notched both goals for the Chest.
