Peter Johnston banged in a bouncing puck

By Freelancer on November 13, 2019

Peter Johnston banged in a bouncing puck off a furious scramble with a minute to go to give Kilrich a 3-3 tie with Air North in a battle of the top teams in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Sunday at Takhini Arena. Ron Cruikshank and Andrew Pothier also scored for Kilrich. Dustin Heffner, Wynn Griffith and Russ McDiarmid replied for Air North.

AON 7, Medicine Chest 1

Mervin Jacobsen and Blaine Demchuk each potted two goals to pace AON, while singles came from Scott Palfreyman, Walt Liley and Paul Sullivan. Kevin Johnstone chipped in three assists. Kirk Price replied for Medicine Chest.

EDI 2, Firth Rangers 2

EDI skated to their fifth tie of the season, but it took a late goal by Firth’s Arlo O’Riordan to make that a reality. Mike Muller rifled home the other Firth goal, while Laurie Malo and Mike Sage tallied for EDI.

Tim Hortons 6, Yukon Inn 4

Geordan Clark continued to wreak havoc on the league’s goalies with a pair of markers, and Daryl Berube (again!), Lester Balsillie, COO Doug Terry and Duane Purych added the others for Tims. Shawn Kinsella continued to fill the net with two for Yukon Inn, and Martin Lawrie and Darnell Kiriak also scored.

Thursday:

Firth dunks Tim Hortons

Greg was going full speed in his Lane in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action Thursday night at Takhini Arena. Lane scored four times to lead the Firth Rangers to a 7-5 come-from-behind win over Tim Hortons, while Arlo O’Riordan popped in a pair and Gord Campbell added the other. For Tim’s, it was Mike Gau with a couple, and solo scores from Lester Balsillie, Pete Mostyn and Daryl Berube (with a rare marker).

Kilrich 8, Medicine Chest 3

Kilrich continue to put up goals and Peter Johnston was the chief supplier with three. Chris Nash contributed two, and Brian Currie, Andrew Pothier and Elgin Schwantz rounded out the scoring. For the Chest, it was Derek Bilodeau, Kirk Price and Martin O’Hagan.

Wednesday:

Yukon Inn 5, EDI 2

Ben Kielb scored twice to lead the Inn, and Shawn Kinsella, Martin Lawrie and Lawrence Igance added singles. For EDI, Laurie Malo and Kevin Neufeld took care of the scoring.

Air North 6, AON 2

It was a family affair again as the Heffner father-son due combined to scored half of Air North’s goals. Dustin netted two and Bernie one. Garrett Zacharias, James Pugsley and Ed van Randen also landed pucks in the net. Scott Palfreyman and Mervin Jacobsen replied for AON.
