Playoff action in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey kicked off Monday night with an upset in Junior Circuit play, as fourth-place Firth knocked off first-place Kilrich by a 6-2 count. Greg Charlie led the Firth onslaught with three goals, Dustin Heffner added a pair and Mike Gau chipped in the other. Replying for Kilrich were Brian Currie and Ben Mercier.

Playoff action resumes Thursday with Senior Circuit action between Tim Hortons and Air North, and then Friday it’s EDI vs Medicine Chest. Also Friday is the other opening Junior game between Yukon Inn and Capri CMW.

On Sunday, March 21 the league wrapped up another successful regular season with a full slate of games at Takhini Arena.

Air North’s Sean MacLeish scored with 2:28 left in the game to earn his team a 4-4 tie with EDI in Senior Circuit play.

Adam Green, Doug Cote and Dave Wipf also scored for the men in orange. For EDI, it was Jeff Jensen with a pair, and one apiece from Laurie Malo and Rick Moses. The other Senior tilt saw Tim Hortons edge Medicine Chest 4-3.

Greg Lane, Garrett Kuptana, Gary Vantell and Lester Balsillie rang up goals for Tims, while Al Hansen scored twice and Pete Mostyn once for the Chest.

Junior Division action saw Mike Gau score with 10 ticks on the clock to give Firth a 4-4 tie with Capri CMW. Peter Johnston, Michael Svoboda and Elgin Schwantz also filled the net for Firth, and for Capri, it was Chris Carli with a pair, and Kevin Johnstone and Gus Morberg with singles. And Yukon Inn downed Kilrich 4-2. Rob Green shucked his wide pads for a forward’s equipment and scored twice for the Inn, with solo efforts coming from Shawn Kinsella and Colin Nash. Mark King got both for Kilrich.

In Junior action last Thursday, Tyson Wirth netted three to lead Yukon Inn over CapriCMW 7-3; and Chris Nash recorded a hat trick of his own as Kilrich outscored the Firth Rangers 8-6.

In Senior play last Wednesday, Rick Moses and Wade Harrison (one on penalty shot) each tallied twice to give EDI a 5-3 win over Medicine Chest; and Garrett Kuptana was dangling for Tim Hortons, leading the donut gang to a 5-3 victory over Air North.
