Defence was nowhere to be seen in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action, as the eight teams piled up 53 goals in the four games Sunday night at the Takhini Arena.

Defence was nowhere to be seen in Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey action, as the eight teams piled up 53 goals in the four games Sunday night at the Takhini Arena. The scores were 11-5, 8-6, 8-4 and 6-5, leaving goalies to wonder if their backcheckers were already on Christmas holidays.

Kilrich 6, Air North 5

Andrew Pothier scored his second goal of the game midway through the final period to pace Kilrich in a battle of the top teams. Chris Nash also scored two, and Travor Willier (with a slick assist as well) and Chris Carli added the others. For Air North, Gary Jerome and Wynn Griffith each netted two, and Garrett Zacharias rifled in the other.

Yukon Inn 11, Tim Hortons 5

Ben Kielb led the way for the Inn with three goals and three assists, Ron Limoges, Anthony Grottoli and Greg Charlie each sniped two, and Lawrence Ignace and Shawn Kinsella rounded out the scoring. For Tims, it was Mike Gau with two, and Duane Purych, Pete Mostyn and Johnny Sembsmoen each poured in one.

AON 8, Medicine Chest 6

Rick Gingell snapped home four goals from defence for AON, and single markers came from Paul Sullivan, Walt Liley, Mervin Jacobsen and Kevin Johnstone. For Medicine Chest, Ben Campbell collected the hat trick, Al Hansen netted two, and Ken Vickerman completed the scoring.

Firth 8, EDI 4

Mark King fired home three goals for Firth, and five other skaters also tallied – Les Luciuk, Mike Jim, Tom Ullyett, Scott Olafson and Rick Moses. For EDI, newcomer Steve Fecteau was in on all EDI goals with a two and two effort, and Rick Smith and Marcel Barrault added single goals.

Last Thursday:

EDI scored three late goals to erase a two-goal deficit for only their second win of their Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey season, a 5-4 win over Yukon Inn Thursday night at the Takhini Arena.

The oldest player in the league, Brian Gudmundson, scored the game-winner with 1:50 left in the game. Other EDI scorers were Tony Clennett with two, and Peter Kirby and Kevin Neufeld with one each. For Yukon Inn, it was Gord Peterson, Shawn Kinsella, Greg Charlie and Ben Kielb with markers.

Firth 6, Tim Hortons 3

Rick Moses scored twice for Firth, and solo shots came from Mark King (four assists), Tom Ullyett, Mike Jim, Mike Muller and Greg Lane. Pete Mostyn had two for Tims, and the other came from Mike Gau.

Last Wednesday:

Kilrich 9, Medicine Chest 2

The Chris Nash train kept chugging along as the speedy forward scored three times and added three assists for Kilrich. Andrew Pothier and Chris Carli each added two goals, and Dave White and Clint Ireland added singles. For the Chest, it was Kirk Price and Myles Dolphin.

Air North 5, AON 3

Dave Wipf led the charge in victory with two goals and two assists. Dustin Heffner also tallied twice and Stu MacMillan chipped in one. For AON, it was Walt Liley, Kevin Johnstone and Joel Witten with goals.
