Utility player James McCullough started the game between the sticks for Klondike Business Solutions, but ended it by scoring a stunning goal to help his team to a 5-2 win over Pepsi in over 35 soccer action, on Saturday.

McCullough was forced to put on the gloves when regular keeper Cory Adams was late due to babysitting issues. This didn’t faze him, as he kept a clean sheet until he was relieved, then made his way forward to assist with his attacking duties.

The KBS team played their best soccer of the season in the first half. Big Scotsman Iain Breckenridge facilitated the defence, then provided the attacking emphasis to allow the KBS forwards time and space on goal, a beneficiary of this was David Rayo, he scored his first two goals of the season while Justin Carre and Andy Todd rounded out the scoring.

Danny MacDonald’s Pepsi team have now lost two in a row and are heading towards mid-table mediocrity. They played better in the second half but couldn’t control the midfield giving KBS their first win of the season. Macdonald and Adil Khalik got the Pepsi goals.

Yukon Brewing muscle past Driving Force

Yukon Brewing has a fearsome looking squad. Each member can score, tackle, pass and run, a great combination for a winning side, and they won again at the Canada Games Centre beating Driving Force 4-3 to move to the top of the league.

The Brew’s strategy of swamping the opposition midfield and waiting for a mistake is paying dividends. Michael Zuccarini and Guliano Rayo were able to get forward and score, and when the Driving Force defence moves forward to challenge these two, it leaves master marksman Eric Murphy free to do what he does best and score again.

An own goal gave the Brew a clear advantage going into the final stages of the game, but Driving Force never gave up and collected 3 goals through Phil Jackson (2) and Fabian Glyka, leaving Yukon Brewing some uncomfortable moments before the referee blew his whistle to end the match.
