Macphail’s magic decides the game

Westmark’s John Macphail,

Westmark’s John Macphail, the over 35’s soccer legend, showed that in those old legs there is still magic as he scored a wonderful individual goal that put paid to Klondike Business Solutions chances as he led his team to a 4-2 victory in Saturday’s early game.

In a game, that on paper, Westmark should win easily, they were forced to play to the best of their ability as KBS never gave up and kept them on their toes right to the end.

Justin Carre was again in fine form for Westmark scoring 2 goals and creating another for skipper Dale Cheeseman, while KBS were unlucky not to add to the 2 goals they got from Andy Todd and Shawn Fearon, but with the game still in the balance Macphail sauntered into the opposition box and scored a goal any self-respecting Brazilian would be happy with. At the halfway stage of the season this win leaves Westmark clear at the top of the league and leaves KBS with a massive job to get out of the basement position.

Rayo’s cool finishing the difference

Guliano Rayo’s eye for goal helped the rejuvenated Pepsi to a 4-2 win over Driving Force, Rayo is not a man to be left unguarded and made Driving Force pay for this transgression as he added two more to his personal tally.

Driving Force did not find any rhythm and were short of ideas on how to stop and score against Pepsi. This may have something to do with Keith Maguire who was having a great game in defence, as well as pouring forward in support of his attackers. David Rayo was a beneficiary of this as he scored two goals.

For Driving Force Eric Murphy scored as usual as did Miles Hume but they couldn’t make any further impact. The win improves Pepsi’s record and their recent performances have made the other teams in the league sit up and take notice.

The great Zuccarini’s hard work pays off

Michael Zuccarini is the unsung hero of the Yukon Brewing team, he puts a shift in everytime he is on the pitch and on Saturday he capped a superb performance with the goal that finished off Yukon Info’s resistance, as the Brew took the game 3-0.

The first half was like two grand chess masters testing each other for weaknesses and both teams didn’t find many as only one goal was scored in the first half. The second half was a little more open as Yukon Info had to get in more advanced positions to level the game, unfortunately this left space for the Yukon Brewing front line to exploit which Iain

Breckenridge did. With time running out, a more and more frustrated Yukon Info were throwing players forward which left Zuccarini to score his goal.

The Brew were very pleased with their first clean sheet of the season, while Danny MacDonald’s Orangemen will be looking for more consistency in the second half of the season.
