Mathius Hartmann was back to his best in over 35’s soccer action as his side Klondike Business Solutions beat Pepsi 5-2 in the early game at the Canada Games Centre.

Hartmann didn’t score last week, so was eager to make amends, as he scored four goals, all of them taken with his usual panache.

In the second half, George Maratos, who was playing as an auxiliary striker succumbed to gravity and fell heavily, leaving KBS with only two subs.

Hartmann took it on himself to shield the defence from a possible Pepsi onslaught that just didnt arrive. The defence had a good day as Nathan Bingham, Gord Barker and John MacPhail were at their very best snarling and biting at any Pepsi attack.

For Pepsi, Patrick Zuccurini played well and got two goals, but they couldn’t impose themselves on the well organized KBS rear guard.

Skipper Andy Todd got the other KBS goal as they broke their three-game losing streak.

Brewing turnover
Yukoninfo.com

Yukon Brewing produced a fine all round display to overcome a stubborn Yukon Info team 6-4 to move themselves further up the league standings.

Justin Carre may have a pair of soccer shoes that he found in a landfill, but they were able to score four times as he produced a performance that has become his trademark. Carre works hard all over the pitch, and always has an eye for an opportunity to score.

Irish pin-up Eric Murphy added another goal to his collection, as did homegrown hero Stephen Doyle.

Yukon Info’s new improved confidence helped them as they attacked with relish and defended well, but they didn’t have the cutting edge that the Brewing team have.

Michael Zuccurini had an immense game and picked up two goals, and there was a goal each for Derek Funk and Chris Stacey.

Although Jason Steele didn’t score he reported that he lost two pounds on his new diet this week.

Air North Rangers quest for the
title becomes a stroll

As the days get longer, and the brilliant sunshine illuminates the Yukon there is something inevitable about the changing seasons, you feel the same about Air North’s march to the title, there is nothing in this world to stop it.

Led superbly by the ghost like Iain Breckenridge (who amazingly picked two goals), they squash any resistance they encounter.

This week, it was waif-like Ciaran Connolly who provided the emphasis, with a great hat trick, assisted by Creed Swan’s two goals and Marcelo Gortari’s one.

Driving Force’s defence had no answer to the constant threat that Air North provided.

Goalkeeper Thomas Riexinger looked like he had been abandoned on a desert island, as all he saw was the sharks playing in blue swimming around him.,

Driving Force were actually matching Air North early on, as Phil Jackson and Shaun Fearon scored for them, but as the time ticked by, the boys in blue became more and more dominate and it was a relief for everyone when the final whistle blew.
