Gortari’s driving the bandwagon

Marcelo Gortari has many assets he can be proud of.

Marcelo Gortari has many assets he can be proud of. His smouldering good looks that brings the over 35’s soccer approval rating up close to 90 per cent, his booming shot that has broken many keeper’s fingers, but on Saturday he showed his subtle side.

Not only did he score two goals, he was also a constant outlet for his defence and added an extra layer of protection for his back line, which helped his team, Air North Rangers to a 3-2 win over Yukoninfo.com.

Air North, thanks to Gortari and Huy Nyugen had established a 3-1 lead which normally points to a defensive shut down, but this week they got the jitters as Danny Macdonald’s men gave them a real fright.

Will Chetchuti was like a wrecking ball, pressuring the Air North defenders and setting his team on a path of destruction.

For the last 10 minutes of the game, Yukon Info pressed hard and had a number of chances to get something from the game. Air North were creaking, but they were able to hold out for the win to move another step closer to the title.

Andy Todd and Goher Hafeez got the Info goals.

Carre hits Pepsi for six

Justin Carre may have the appearance that he has wandered back from living in the bush for three years, but his desire to score goals is burning brightly, as Yukon Brewing brushed aside Pepsi 9-0.

Carre looks like he has the hunger not only for a good meal, but with goals as a starter, as he cut into the Pepsi side with aplomb, as it seemed like he was the only person on the field the way he was playing.

Poor Cory Adams the Pepsi keeper was sick of picking the ball out of the back of the net, but he wasn’t helped much by his defenders as they couldn’t get to grips with Carre’s skill.

Pepsi skipper Mark O Brien celebrated his birthday in the week, but this was not the kind of present he wanted and must now try and pick his troops up for next week’s game against Air North.

Eric Murphy is slowly getting into gear as he picked up a goal, as did Miles Hume and silver fox Stephen Doyle.

KBS work hard for the win

Klondike Business Solutions had a tough battle against Driving Force, but were able to pull out the victory with a fine second half display as they collected the points in a 6-3 win.

The first half it was all Driving Force. Phil Jackson and Brian Bruckman scored goals that proved their superiority, as they welcomed Greg Grady back to the fold who looked lively and well up for the challenge.

However, the KBS team must have had a stern team talk in the interval, as they changed their fortunes quickly. Resident superhero Matthias Hartmann grabbed three goals, Andy Todd got two and there was one for Jim Brown, as KBS broke the shackles that were holding them back.

The only blemish for them in the second half was when Shaun Fearon outsmarted sub, Iain ‘the solar eclipse’ Breckenridge and tucked away a fine goal.

KBS dreams of the title may have gone now, but they want to continue their good form and momentum going into the playoffs.
